The change of seasons always seems to bring a restless edge to our office atmosphere. The six guys who work in the adjustments department of our insurance company were having a Friday gripe session before heading home for the weekend. Josh had picked up a six-pack of microbrew and some chips and the talk was flowing freer. I start to feel caged in this time of year,” Scott was saying. “Winter is over and now we can start mowing the lawn – big deal! Scott was most pessimistic of the lot. Bob was the optimist who always tried to counterbalanced Scott. “Let’s think up a getaway adventure, a whole change of scene this year. We can leave the gals home for a couple of days and do some guy stuff. A hunting trip, maybe – or how about some deep sea fishing in Florida Keys? That’ll loosen the old cobwebs!.
So it was that Josh, Scott, Bob and Jordan started planning for the great fishing expedition. Jordan had a tendency to be seasick but he didn’t want to be the spoiler and he didn’t want to be the wet blanket, so he kept quiet.
“April is a good time for deep sea fishing, Red snapper starts about now and grouper fishing is in big for a few more weeks,” Bob went on. Florida Keys deep sea fishing is really good right now and we could avoid the summer crowds, “he went on.
The next day, almost like magic, Josh, Scott, Bob and Jordan were standing on a pier in the famous Florida Keys, looking at the waves and itching to jump in and swim a little. After they settled on accommodations near the water Josh and Scott popped the idea that they should try fishing from a sailboat. They had some experience sailing on the Great Lakes one summer and decided to talk the group into going along. with renting a sailboat rigged for deep sea fishing, one with a hand held GPS so they wouldn’t get lost. The problem was the sailors. The first thing that became apparent was that Jordan looked very green around the gills. Josh and Scot were busy manning the rudder and the sails;
Only Bob had the time and presence to see what was happening. “Oh my gosh,” he groaned. “Jordan, why didn’t you tell us you get seasick?” Jordan was spoiling the
fun. This problem could be bad. “I brought my Dramamine with me on the plane, but I plumb forgot to put some in my pocket,” he wailed. The wind was picking up big time now and the boat was racing through the waves. Poor Scott and Josh were strained to the limit of their strength as they tacked into port. Not one fish did they catch that day!
The next day brought clearer thinking as they relaxed over a breakfast of fresh catch seafood. One hundred percent of the votes of the little group was tallied and they decided to hire a charter boat. Two days later they came home with some impressive movies, stills, and loaded with a huge stash of frozen red snapper for the families.
